Most print mistakes are easy to prevent once you know what to look for. Here are the ten we see most often.
1. Low-resolution images
Images below 300 DPI print blurry. Always use the highest resolution file you have.
2. Missing bleed
Without bleed, trimmed edges show white slivers. Add 3mm bleed on all sides that touch the edge.
3. Wrong colour mode
RGB files print duller. Convert to CMYK before exporting.
4. Typos in the final copy
Proofread everything, then get a second person to read it. A typo in a phone number or price is costly.
5. Text too close to the edge
Text can get cut off during trimming. Keep it at least 5mm from the trim line.
6. Using too many fonts
Stick to two or three fonts. Too many fonts make a design look unprofessional.
7. Forgetting to outline fonts
If the printer does not have your font, the text changes. Outline or embed fonts.
8. Incorrect file format
Send a print-quality PDF, not a Word document or screenshot.
9. Wrong paper choice
A premium design on cheap paper feels cheap. Match the paper to the product.
10. Not requesting a proof
A proof catches mistakes before a full run. Always review one.
If you are ever unsure, send your file and ask. A quick review costs nothing; a reprint does.
